What is Tetlanohcan Known For?

Tetlanohcan has always been a very warm and welcoming place, and the residents are commonly thought of as embracing visitors no matter who they are. There is a lot of agricultural business in Tetlanohcan. People sell food in the markets and can even barter. The people support each other in good times and in hard times.

Tetlanohcan is a very historic part of Mexico. It is named after the first Spanish settler that arrived in the city, Francisco Javier Muñoz. There is a historic church built from the stones of the volcano. The church was built before the Mexican revolution and is a major landmark of the city.

History

One distinct landmark of Tetlanohcan is the volcano La Malinche. It has an altitude of 14,500 feet. From the summit, you can see the 3 tallest mountains in Mexico. The trail of La Malinche starts in Huamantla, a nearby municipality to Tetlanohcan. The hike from the bottom of the volcano to the top takes around 4 hours.

Carnival is very important in Tetlanohcan. During Carnival, masked dancers called huehues dance in the town center. The music for carnival is usually a wind instrument band. At night time, Mariachi bands play music. There are fireworks and ringing church bells in honor of San Francisco.
